SKATE GOLDEN GATE is a 5 day celebration of roller skating and inline skating in the greatest city in the world – San Francisco!!! This event celebrates 46 years since the birth of the Golden Gate Park Skate Patrol which was formed to keep roller skating from being banned in Golden Gate Park. We are inviting skaters from far and wide to come to San Francisco and experience our fun, exciting and unique skating culture that sets the trends that others around the world are following today.  Indoors and outdoors, inline and quad. Disco, Hip Hop and even Goth. One nation under a groove.  That’s the San Francisco way. The highlight will be a roller skating rink we have created just steps away from the Golden Gate Bridge.
A roller skating rink at the Golden Gate Bridge, one of the most famous landmarks in the world? This is like a dream come true!!! From July 15 through July 20, Building 937 in San Francisco's Presidio will transformed into the Church of 8 Wheels Golden Gate. There will be public skate sessions during the day along with roller skate lessons and dance skating clinics scheduled at times during the week. There are sessions for kids and families as well as adults. We will have rental roller skates and safety gear available in all sizes. Everyone will have a funky good time.
There will be five days of skating. Some of the events will be held at the Church of 8 Wheels Roller Disco, some will be in Golden Gate Park.We will attempt a Guinness World Record and showcase our skills at 6th Ave. Skatin’ Place and on the new JFK Promenade. We even want to encourage you to gain the knowledge and experience to do the same where you live!!!

This is San Francisco’s Roller Disco. It 2013 we had a skate part here and it never ended.  We transformed this old, empty, dusty Catholic church into a unique San Francisco roller skating experience. This is a prime example of repurposing old historic buildings for roller skating and making them useful for the community. The doors will be open on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and we’ll end Skate Week San Francisco here on Sunday night.

The San Francisco Friday Night Skate

In 1989 the Loma Prieta Earthquake shut down the Embarcadero Freeway that flowed along the San Francisco waterfront. Skaters from the Skate Patrol began skating on it at night.  By the time it was torn down we had an entire route through the City. The Friday Night Skate was born.

Skaters will meet at 1 Embarcadero at the Ferry Building at 9PM.  They will skate a 12 mile loop through the City rolling through all the hot spots. Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf, The Marina, The Place of Fine Arts, the Broadway Tunnel, Union Square, the Concrete Canyons and back to the Ferry Building.  There are plenty of stops along the way. This ain’t no roller disco, but it is a funky good time!!!

6th Ave. Skatin’ Place Golden Gate Park
This area has been the center of skating in Golden Gate Park since 1986. Over the years it has been repaved, enlarged and recently redesigned to the magnificent public outdoor roller skating facility you see today.  It is a shining example of what should be in every city for roller skaters. We will have open skating here on Saturday all day and the Skaters Showcase here on Sunday.

The San Francisco Skaters Showcase
Here we move the action to 6th Ave. Skatin’ Place in Golden Gate Park for the San Francisco Skaters’ Showcase. Skaters will perform their routines in Singles, Couples and Groups. It is not a competition, but an exhibition of the talent skaters will share with the public. This will begin at 2:00 P.M. and end at 4:00 P.M. At 3:00 P.M., we will present Mayor London Breed and SF Rec and Parks General Manager Phil Ginsburg with their World Champion Belts as they are truly Champions of San Francisco, Golden Gate Park and JFK Promenade. Afterwards will do what we do every Sunday in Golden Gate Park. Skate and have a funky good time.

The Spreading Rolligion Seminar
Saturday, 10:30 AM to 12 Noon
Church of 8 Wheels Golden Gate 937 Old Mason St. S.F.Ca. 94129

We not only want for to have a great time skating in San Francisco, we want you to take the experience home with you.  We want you to go out and help spread “rolligion” where you live. We have been very successful in our 45 years of working with the City, the SF Rec and Parks Dept. and all the other agencies and groups in San Francisco and California.  We have produced roller skating events for some of the largest festivals in the world including Coachella, the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas and of course Burning Man for 21 years. We have also worked for decades with efforts to close JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park to Car traffic to create what is now JFK Promenade. We will have members of the Black Roller Skaters Federation and representatives from Liberation Park in Oakland, Ca. on hand as well and together we will discuss how we can spread rolligion everywhere.
